What can I do about all the spam in my inbox?

How To - Stop Spam

Direct marketing efforts continue to flood the Internet with unsolicited and bothersome "junk mail". In an effort to dramatically reduce the amount of junk email our customers receive, we continuously improve and update our system-wide spam filters. However, we cannot do this job alone. We need your help in order to keep our database of known spammers updated. Please forward to us any junk email you receive that is of an especially bothersome or repetitive nature. Your help will be appreciated.

Forward all unwanted junk mail to spam@qis.net.

To ensure that the necessary information is forwarded in the email, you will need to make certain that the headers in your email program are turned on. To accomplish this, please follow the instructions for your email program listed below:

Outlook Express:

  • Right click on the subject of the email as it's listed in the top window, then left click on the word Properties.
  • In the new window, click on the Details tab at the top and you’ll see the Headers for the email.
  • Right click anywhere within the headers and left click Select All, this will select all the text in that window.
  • Right click a second time anywhere in the highlighted text and left click the word Copy.
  • Press the OK button to return to your list of messages.
  • Forward the email and enter spam@qis.net into the To: field.
  • In the blank space above "Original Message," right click and then left click on the word Paste. Now the full headers will be written above the body of the original message.

Outlook 2003/ Office Outlook:

  • Right click on the subject of the email as it's listed in the top window, and left click on the word Options.
  • At the bottom of the new window, there is a field marked Internet Headers.
  • In that field, right click anywhere on the text and left click Select All, this will select all the text in that window.
  • Right click a second time anywhere in the highlighted text and left click the word Copy.
  • Press the Close button to return to your list of messages.
  • Forward the email and enter spam@qis.net into the To: field.
  • In the blank space above "Original Message", right click and then left click on the word Paste. Now the full headers will be written above the body of the original message.

Netscape 4.7:

  • Left click on the View menu at the top of the screen, and put the mouse cursor on Headers, then left click on the word All.
  • You will see the headers of the email listed above the body of the message.
  • Forward the email to spam@qis.net, and the original email including headers will either appear in the body, or as an attachment on your new email.

Netscape versions 6 and 7:

  • Left click on the View menu at the top of the screen, and put the mouse cursor on Headers, then left click on the word All.
  • Depending on your version of Netscape, you may see the Headers displayed instead of the body of the email. If this happens, click the small downward pointing arrow at the top left corner of the message body next to the word Subject (if you have the Classic theme turned on, you will see a minus sign instead of an arrow). This will hide the headers and you’ll be able to read the body of the email again.
  • Forward the email to spam@qis.net, and the original email including headers will either appear in the body, or as an attachment on your new email.

Mozilla / Thunderbird:

  • Left click on the View menu at the top of the screen, and put the mouse cursor on Headers, then left click on the word All.
  • Full Headers will now be displayed above the message. Depending on your version of Mozilla/Thunderbird, you may see the Headers displayed instead of the body of the email. If this happens, click the minus sign at the top left corner of the message body next to the word Subject (if you have the Modern theme turned on, you will see small arrow instead of a plus/minus sign). This will hide the headers and you’ll be able to read the body of the email again.
  • Forward the email to spam@qis.net, and the original email including headers will either appear in the body, or as an attachment on your new email.

Eudora v.7

  • Double left click on an email in your inbox, and the message will now be displayed fully in the window.
  • Above the body of the email, and to the left of the Subject, you’ll see a small square button with the words "blah, blah, blah" written on it. Left click on this button, and the full email headers will be displayed above the body of the message.
  • Forward the email to spam@qis.net, and the original email including headers will either appear in the body, or as an attachment on your new email.
