CATSCAN RECORDS is pleased to announce that the release of the third CD of blues music by W.C. Spencer - The Bluescat has been greeted with open acclaim by the top publications and reviewers in the US and abroad. Spencer's Blues Explorer, the brand new CD of blues songs samples twelve varied styles of blues is highlighted by 8 live cuts where the artist handles all of the instrumentation and sings at the same time. Spencer's first two CD's generated a good response from blues radio, aficionados, the print media and also on the internet. With a revolutionary approach to instrumentation, the new CD of original, piedmont, jump and classic electric blues was set for released to radio on 7/1/2004 with a street or release date of 8/1/2004 to online distributors and Tower nationwide. Known to some as the best live multi-instrumentalist in the world and a knowledgeable performer of authentic blues music, Spencer's been off the road since last Fall when his wife and father were diagnosed with breast cancer. W.C. recently became a father in 2001 and has spent more time off the road than on to help nurture the daughter and care for his wife. Spencer's booked for dates in July/August and folks can look forward again to hearing W.C.'s skill and perspective on the different styles, regions and sounds of the blues. With terrific reviews in Big City Blues, Living Blues, Blue Suede News, Concerto, NetRhythms, King Biscuit Time and Blues Revue, the new album, Blues Explorer, is poised to start it's debut. W.C.'s first two albums on Catscan Records, Bluescat and Over Time, achieved dedicated airplay on over 750 radio outlets. The new CD is now in rotation on the same stations worldwide. The pre-review for Hittin' The Note said the album is "Hauntingly refreshing while performed with timeless appeal". Spencer, who is considered the premier one-man show in the blues market today, has created a niche for himself, being called a "remarkable and versatile musician" by Blues Revue Magazine. Spencer's new album is heralded as "...dynamic, ardent blues...a revolutionary delivery..." by Tom Clarke in the May 2004 issue of King Biscuit Time Magazine. This third album delivers a powerful mix of music sure to inspire anyone with a broad interest in blues and guitar-centered music. In an era of SRV clones and "me-too" blues groups, W.C. Spencer has been hailed as a 'musical genius or a freak of nature' for his original 'ensemble' approach to interpreting and performing different styles of acoustic and electric Blues. "Another masterful disc deserving of praise and greater mass appeal", says Gerry Donnelly, an independent writer and contributor for the Charlotte Blues Society. Current reviews may be found at Bluesbytes online, Real Blues, Blues Revue, Big City Blues, Guitar One, M4M, Netrhythms and King Biscuit Time Magazines |
