Though I didn't get to see the race, I understand the new configuration at Homestead provided the best racing there so far. Larry picked up his 3rd win of the 2nd half, and Cheryl & Joyce came across in a dead heat for 2nd, followed by Lou and Ruth Anne. Jeff DNF'd one more time.

Emerson hung on to take the 2nd half championship, followed by Bill, Ruth Anne, Jamie, & Cheryl. The rankings pretty well sum up everyone's performance. Emerson had the most wins with 5, Ruth Anne had the most top 5's with 14, and Jeff had the most DNF's with 6.

It's been a long season. I, for one, am glad it's over. Thanks for playing! Remember, I'm stepping down as ringmaster of this circus. Who wants the whip next year?

First of all, Happy 228th Birthday to all you Marines out there! With that out of the way...

For the first time in my (admittedly suspect) memory, we have a dead heat! Emerson & Jamie roared across the line at the same time to take the checkers at "The Rock" yesterday! Tom finished 3rd, Ruth Anne 4th and Kevin 5th.

By virtue of his win, Emerson extended his lead over Bill to 382 points. While I haven't done the math, I think it's theoretically possible for Bill to win, but it doesn't look good. Especially since he has to guard against Jamie, Ruth Anne, & Matt who are looming large in his rear-view mirror.

The 36th and last race of the season is the Ford 400 at the reconfigured Homestead-Miami Speedway. I think the new configuration will provide for exciting racing.

First & second in the season points battled it out for the checkers yesterday, and they finished that way... first & second! Cheryl came in third, Tom fourth, and Jamie fifth.

Nothing has changed in the second half standings. With only two races to go, only Bill has any chance of beating Emerson. Can he make up the 196 points? Stay tuned.

It's on to The Rock for the Pop Secret 400. It's the last fall race here; Rockingham loses this date to Darlington in 2004.

First, the race was delayed by rain. Then Collective didn't have their site updated until past 9 o'clock tonight for some reason. But the results are in, and Larry went from worst to first! Seems to be a trend this half... Bill, Joyce, Matt, & Tom rounded out the top 5. Renee collected her first DNF for the 2nd half.

Not much time left to catch Emerson for the season championship, but Bill did cut into my lead. It's still doable.

The next race is the Checker Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. Hope the fires don't make it across the mountains...

Monday, October 20th, 2003

Another close race at the shortest & slowest track on the circuit! The top 5 were seperated by less than 50 points. Winning this week was Ruthie's Racers, followed by Champ's Chumps, Joyce's Choices, CAT Racing, and Figure 1 Motorsports. Rob's Raiders brought up the rear.

Not much movement in the season standings. Ruth Anne's win moved her up to 3rd overall. With 4 races left, there's still time for her or Bill to catch Champ's Chumps.

It's on to Atlanta, the fastest non-plate track on the circuit, for the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500.

Sunday, October 12th, 2003

T'was a close race under the lights at Charlotte last night. Bill edged Jamie by six points, with Emerson, Larry, & Ruth Anne making up the rest of the top 5. 35 points seperated 1st through 5th, and 102 points seperated 1st through 10th. Kevin's woes continued with his 2nd consecutive DNF.

While Emerson continues to hold the season points lead, Bill's 3rd win puts him in 2nd place with designs on first. Jamie, Ruth Anne, & Matt round out the top 5.

It's the fall stop at Martinsville for the Subway 500. Bangin' & bumpin' at its finest...

Tuesday, October 7th, 2003

No one went from worst to first this week, but Rob's Raider's did score their first win of the 2nd half! Good show, Larry! Cheryl, Joyce, Bill, & Ruth Anne followed Larry across the stripe. Gregg Boys Racing, who looked so promising a few short weeks ago, fell out with their first DNF of the half.

While Emerson is still in first place in the 2nd half standings, Bill is in 2nd, Kevin's DNF dropped him into 3rd, Matt is in 4th, and Jamie is in 5th. Larry's win vaulted him up 2 notches into 12th, dropping Cay back into last place.

We're back to Charlotte this week for the UAW-GM Quality 500. Good thing GM & the UAW signed their labor contract this week...
This race is now under the lights Saturday night, rather than on Sunday as in the past, so don't let the trading deadline sneak up on you!

Monday, September 29th, 2003

Jeff Hamming's WAG Racing is the latest team to go from worst to first. Yay, Jeff! Renee, Ruth Anne, Bill, & Larry managed to escape relatively unscathed to round out the top 5. Cheryl got caught up in "The Big One" and DNF'd for the first time this half.

Since we were outta town this past weekend & I didn't get to change away from Kyle Petty after he failed to qualify, I'd a thunk Kevin would take advantage & roar right back into first place. Well, I thounk wrong. Kevin had some problems of his own, so I remain on top of the season points. Too bad, Kevin...

This week we make our only stop of the season at Kansas Raceway for the Banquet 400. This is one of those cookie-cutter tracks ala Michgan & California, albeit slightly smaller at 1.5 miles.

— Emerson & Ruth Anne

Monday, September 22nd, 2003

From worst to first, Lou! Nice recovery for for Figure 1 Motorsports. Tom, Ruth Anne, Emerson, & Jamie followed him across the line. WAG Racing collected yet another DNF.

Emerson's 8th Top 5 finish was enough to punt Kevin outta the way into first place. Matt, Jamie, & Bill round out the top 5, and Jeff remains mired in last place. Gotta be around at the finish, Jeff...

It's back to plate racing at Talledega this week for the EA Sports 500. No hurricane to get in the way this time!

Monday, September 15th, 2003

"Da Bills" were definately better than "da race", especially since neither Champ's Chumps nor Ruthie's Racer's won. We do, however, have a first-time 2nd half winner — Joyce's Choices! Yay! JPM Motorsports, Martinez Motorsports, M&M 2003, and WAG Racing were 2nd through 5th. Figure 1 Motorsports limped home in last place.

Kevin is still leading the season points race, but Emerson has cut his margin to 13. Watch out, Kevin! [insert cheesy Jaws theme here]

Up next is the MBNA America 400 from Dover International Speedway — unless Hurricane Isabel wrecks things as she is threatening to do. Stay tuned!

Monday, September 8th, 2003

Didn't get to watch many laps this weekend, but I saw the ones that counted! First Johnny Sauter admits punting Matt Kenseth out of the way to win the Busch race, then Harvick goes after Rudd after the Cup race! One would think they would have learned something from Spencer's involuntary vacation, wouldn't you?

As for our own little group, I'm proud of y'all. Half of ya scored over 1000 points this week. Bill's Wasted Knights squeaked by Matt's M&M 2003. You didn't punt him outta the way, didja Bill? Cheryl, Ruth Anne, & Kevin rounded out the top 5. Jeff wrecked out again this week.

Kevin's 5th place finish at Richmond was good enough to take over the season points lead from Emerson by 22 points. Watch out, Kevin! I'm hot on your bumper!

This week we're back to New Hampshire for the Sylvania 300. Methinks we might be watchin' "Da Bills" on DirecTV instead...

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2003

The last Southern 500 on Labor Day weekend saw the summer to a close. Tom & Kevin were neck & neck heading to the checkers, but Tom managed to get to the line first for the win. Trailing far behind were Emerson, Jamie, & Ruth Anne. Jeff got caught up in one of the wrecks and didn't make it back on the track, earning a DNF as a result.

While Matt Kenseth may have a comfortable lead in the NASCAR season points, Emerson's lead over Kevin has dwindled to 75 points. Will there be a new leader after Richmond? I'm sure Kevin is looking for Emerson to DNF.

Saturday night brings our 2nd stop at Richmond for the Chevy Rock and Roll 400. Hope this stationary front gets outta the way by then...

It comes out this week that Kurt Busch intentionally tried to damage the #7 during the race at Michigan, and then he didn't run out of gas in front of Spencer's hauler, but rather stopped there on purpose to taunt Jimmy. On top of that, it appeared to my eyes that Busch punted Sterling Marlin out of the way at Bristol. It came as no surprise to hear NASCAR give Busch a warning not to hit anyone else. So Busch deserved all the boos he heard at Bristol. But being in Victory Lane certainly took a lot of the sting out of the boos, I'm sure.

While I am no fan of Kurt Busch, I couldn't ignore the fact he's done extremely well at Bristol of late. So I held my nose & picked him. Good thing; I rode him all the way to the checkers. I was followed by Renee, Jamie, Cheryl, and Kevin. Larry recorded his first DNF of the 2nd half.

I'm still atop the season points, followed by Kevin, Bill, Matt, & Cheryl.

Tradition meaning nothing to NASCAR anymore, this week we will visit Darlington for the last Southern 500 on Labor Day weekend. Next year we'll be in California Labor Day Weekend, and the Southern 500 moves to November. What a joke.

Looks like Jimmy "Mr. Excitement" Spencer's temper got the best of him. According to various media reports, Jimmy rammed Busch's car on pit road after the race, then proceeded to take some punches at him. Both were called to the Big Red Trailer, and Jimmy may have assault charges pending, and he could well be facing suspension.

Meanwhile, it looks like our little group ran out of gas on the way to the checkers. 1024 points should not be enough for a win, and 936 points shouldn't garner a top 5. Nonetheless, that's what happened as Emerson snagged his 2nd win of the 2nd half, followed by Ruth Anne, Matt, Jamie, & Kevin. Cay still can't seem to get any luck as he recorded his 3rd DNF of the 2nd half.

Emerson is still atop the 2nd half standings, followed by Kevin, Bill, Ruth Anne, & Matt.

It's under the lights at Bristol's high banks this Saturday for the Sharpie 500. This is one track we really want to go to! Maybe next year...

Monday, August 11th, 2003

The road course ringers didn't do as well as expected, but that didn't stop Bill Stoffel's Wasted Knights from gathering his first win of the 2nd half! Following Bill across the line was Jamie, Emerson, Matt, & Cheryl. Tom ran off the course & couldn't find his was back and collected his first DNF in the process.

Champ's Chumps moved into first place for the 2nd half, followed by Bill, Kevin, Ruth Anne, & Matt.

This week's action is at Michigan International Speedway for the GFS Marketplace 400.

We're back from vacation, and we've finally gotten the standings updated! Please note that there are no World Ranks for the Pocono YTD, because collective doesn't archive week-to-week YTD standings. Here are the results:

New England 300 Top 5: Matt, Ruth Anne, Emerson, Bill, and Jamie.
Pennsylvania 500 Top 5: Emerson, Cheryl, Lou, Ruth Anne, and Bill.
Brickyard 400 Top 5: Ruth Anne, Kevin, Cheryl, Joyce, and Jeff.

Next up we visit Watkins Glen for the Sirius at the Glen. Get those road course ringers ready!

Though they said it would be today, Collective still doesn't have the Loudon results posted yet, so I can't post them here. Ruth Anne & I are leaving today for good ol' Buffalo, and won't return until Monday, August 4th. Until then, Cheryl has graciously agreed to update the spreadsheet I use to track results and email it to everyone. I will update the site when we get back.

Monday, July 14th, 2003

Not a good week for any of us, methinks. I am sure that Matt will be surprised to find his paltry 996 points were nonetheless good enough to vault him from worst to first, sneaking across ahead of Tom, Larry, Ruth Anne, & Emerson. Joyce was our DNF for the week.

Tom's 2nd place finish was enough to gain the Green & Black Attack first place in the 2nd half standings, followed by Kevin, Lou, Larry, & Jamie.

New Hampshire International Raceway hosts the New England 300 next Sunday. They've installed the SAFER walls and repaved the turns — again. While I'm confident it will be a safe race, it will prob'ly also be a boring one. Good thing it's only 300 miles.

Monday, July 7th, 2003

Man, getting my wisdom tooth pulled this morning was less painful than that race Saturday night! Floating heads, too many commercial breaks, missing the green during a commercial, and the announcers yelling, "IS THS THE BIG ONE?" all combined to give me quite the headache. I'm ready for Fox to come back...

As for the race itself, Lou's Figure One Motorsports scooted across the finish line ahead of Tom, Kevin, Jamie, & Bill. Matt didn't avoid "The Big One" and DNF'd as a result.

This being the first race of the 2nd half, the standings are the same as the weekly results. Nonetheless, you can find them here.

We move on to the Windy City this week for the Tropicana 400 at Chicagoland Raceway.

Welcome back, Race Fans! Let me introduce to you our newest member, Larry Staton who will be competing as Rob's Raiders!

I have new charts up for the 2nd half. Be sure to pick your teams before the deadline!

It's under the lights at Daytona for the Firecracker 400 on Saturday, July 5th at 7:30 PM on NBC.
