Frederick Kail
Born February 20, 1937 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Frederick Kail is a graduate of the Maryland Institute of Art, BFA, where he attended on a Senatorial Scholarship and received the Silver Medal of Excellence upon graduation. While at The Maryland Institute, Kail studied sculpture for one year under internationally renowned sculptor, Hans Schuler. Aside from this experience, Kail is basically a self taught sculptor. Kail's work energizes bronze while freezing the dynamics of the competitive spirit.
Castings of his work are part of the permanent collection of The National Art Museum of Sport in Indianapolis, Indiana, and The Lacrosse Hall of Fame on the campus of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Others are showcased at Syracuse University, and the University of Louisville. Kail's bronzes are also represented at GalleryE at Camden Yards in Baltimore.
In addition to his sculpture, Kail has gained international recognition as an outstanding graphic designer, and has designed major corporate identification programs and consumer packaging for many national and international companies. He has received numerous national awards including the prestigious AIGA Award of Excellence. Kail has two daughters, four granddaughters and resides in Lutherville, Maryland.
