August 1997 to Present - COACT, Inc.
Network Security Engineer
I've just started at COACT. It's a return to some familiar faces as this company is an offshoot of ACC Network Systems, a previous employer. My primary jobs will be to modernize the office computer network and software applications, upgrading hardware as needed, improving our Internet connection, establishing an e-mail system, tracking an organizing software, manage the test lab, and pretty much anything that needs done!
June 1995 to August 1997 - BBN
Sustaining Engineer
While at BBN, I supported BBN's America OnLine contract as a Systems/Network Engineer. I was responsible for the final QA and configuration of all network connectivity devices such as Ascend MAX's, cisco routers, and various terminal access products prior to their usage in a real-time environment with AOL Internet traffic.
My job also involved the testing and evaluation of the latest ISDN/T1 modem hubs/routers from various vendors. These included the Cascade AX800, Nortel Rapport 112, cisco AS5200, and Ascend TNT. I executed test plans and provided feedback. I also performed duties as the hardware support person for maintaining and expanding all racks of equipment within the BBN network operations center which supports BBN's AOL contract. As well as evaluating new access device products, I was tasked with included the installation and testing of DirecPC Satellite technology from Hughes Network, which brings the Internet to your desktop PC via a satellite connection.
Prior to my involvement with the Dialup Networking Department, I provided technical support and systems integration for a variety of Government customers in a networking environment. I provided engineering support in the configuration, administration, and troubleshooting of workstations, routers, and various peripherals. I provide engineering support for the installation of assorted software packages and tools. These include SunNet Manager, Solaris, Communique, HP Openview, CiscoWorks, and BBN proprietary network tools. I provided technical research in the acquisition of software and hardware.
My involvement in BBN's Government support allowed me to provide on-site integration and operational support for the annual JWID (Joint Warfighter Interoperability Demonstration) during the Summer/Fall of 1995. The technologies demonstrated voice, video, and data in real-time over a tactical ATM network. These demonstrations exposed me to FORE and GTE ATM switches.
I also possess a good working knowledge of the World Wide Web and HTML through the use of Web browsers such as Mosaic, Netscape, and Microsoft Internet Explorer and the creation of HTML Web pages on Sun, PC, and Macintosh platforms. Recent training seminars I have attended include HP Openview Node Manager, CiscoWorks, and Solaris 2.x Fundamentals.
October 1985 to May 1995 - ACC Network Systems
Network Engineer
Working for a small company allowed me to function as a Network Engineer, Customer Service Supervisor, Senior Site Representative, Quality Assurance Engineer, Systems Analyst, Manufacture and Test Engineer at various times throughout my career at ACC Network Systems. My work was performed in various locations - resident on-site, temporary travel to customer sites, local contractors, and in SCIF facilities.
My duties included the installation and configuration of internetworking equipment, troubleshooting TCP/IP network anomalies, executing performance and benchmark tests for systems and individual products (COTS and other). I provided Quality Assurance through testing and support of products throughout the stages of their development such as engineering, manufacturing, and sales. I am familiar with a variety of vendors bridge/router products such as ACC, Timeplex, cisco, Wellfleet, NSC, Alantec, and Proteon. I provided on-site maintenance support for LAN and WAN networks for 5 years.
My varied responsibilities required me to become familiar with protocol analyzers used to capture and analyze LAN and WAN data. In addition, I conducted proof-of-concept testing and product capabilities/performance testing for network theories and products. This wide range of tasking enabled me to become experienced with various operating systems (UNIX, DOS, Macintosh), software packages, (PCTCP, Mosaic, Motif) and hosts (PC's, Suns, Macintosh) used in LAN/WAN networking environments. I also provided technical support under a government Security Proof of Concept Keystone project (SPOCK), so I am familiar with network security products , such as NES' and BFE's, and technologies used in MLS environments.
