My first piece of furniture that I've built for someone that came as a referral from a previous customer ! I guess that means I'm doing o.k. work ! This was also my first project using Walnut and the first time I've used pocket door hardware.

These folks wanted a cabinet for a television. They had an idea of the stype and size. I happened to have a issue of WoodSmith magazine that had almost what they were looking for. We adjusted the dimensions and some minor details and off I went. Three years later (not really, it just seems that way sometimes) , poof - this is what came out of the Figure One Woodworking dungeon !

The door panels are solid walnut that I resawed (is that correct grammar ?) from a thicker piece. I like to use solid wood whenever possible. The Accuride pocket door hardware installed and worked like I knew what I was doing ! Some simple brass knobs are the only hardware seen from the oustide. Very simple line, very modest molding profiles, quite a nice piece. The finish I applied was my old faithful tung oil/poly wipe on from General Finishes. A sealer coat and several top coats did the trick.

Thanks for your business Gary and Tracey ! We'll get together soon and talk about that drop leaf table you wanted next.
