ABOUT FREEDOM ULTIMATE NOW

Background

In the Summer of 2006, a group of area athletes and a few parents started playing Ultimate once each week. The response was very positive with 15 – 25 people participating each week.

Because of the response and positive feedback, a group of interested parents encouraged the formalization of Ultimate playing opportunities in South Carroll County.

In October of 2006, FUN became an affiliate of the Freedom Area Recreation Council (FARC). As an affiliate of FARC, FUN receives:

· Support from the local recreation council

· Priority in gaining regular access to area fields.

· Liability coverage for its activities

· The ability to publicize its events in the FARC publications

In the Spring of 2007, FUN started its first season of play.

· FUN had approximately 60 registered players.

· On average, 20 to 30 players played per day

· Play was extended into October.

· Players ranged from 11 years old to over 50 – boys, girls, women and men

Future Plans

FUN intends to remain relatively informal for the summer of 2008.

FUN intends to publicize its pick-up games in greater detail and volume and hopefully sponsor clinics to help area players learn more about the basics of the game.

Ultimately, it would be fun to form teams and also play in regional leagues.

Days of play, Number of days per week to play, Weekend play, times, etc are open to discussion.

FUN intends to gauge interest from members and determine the Ultimate direction of the club.
