Rich's reflections on 20 + years in the business

It was on September 18th, 1982. A Parents without Partners Dance at the Owings Mills Fire Hall. How many gigs since then? I don't know. Maybe one day I'll stop and figure it out. I know I did well over 1,000 in my years in the Jammers alone. But it ain't about the numbers. It's hard to explain exactly why I do it. Some nights, it feels like it's not worth it. But other nights....when things are going good.... One night like that can keep me going strong for a long while. Sometimes it's only one song that will turn my mood around. And that is all it takes and it is all brand new again. If you're reading this and you're a kindred spirit, you'll know what I'm talking about.
And when I look back I really owe a debt of gratitude to all those who stood beside me on all those stages and helped influence and teach me in so many ways. Some of them are no longer with us Forgive me if I have inadvertantly left your name out or spelled your name wrong. (Better yet, drop me an email and I'll fix it) (In roughly chronological order....) "Indecisive", "Hellfire", "Right Turn", "Spartan", "The Thunderhawks", "Big Cam and the Lifters", "The Force", "Vince Corolla and Krackerjax", "Homer Fink and the Fins", "Shambles", "Route 66", "Vital Signs", "Satisfaction", "Gene and the Crusiers", "Joey and the Jammers", and of course "Rich and the Roadrunners".

As Bruce Springsteen wrote in the liner notes of Southside Johnny's first album: "You will never see most of these names on another (website) besides this one, but nonetheless, they're names that should be spoken in reverance at least once, not because they're great musicians (truth is, some of them couldn't play nothing at all) but because they were each in thier own way a living spirit of what rock and roll is all about. It was about music as survival and they lived it down in their souls night after night."
Raise a glass and on to the next 20 years.
Keep the faith,
-Rich
